As part of our exhibition From the Future to the Present at our federal chancellery in Stockholm, Konstfrämjandet invites you to attend a second lecture over a joint lunch. This time we show a digital presentation of the Ukrainian artist Katya Buchatska, whose work "Night Stay" is on display in the window.
On Friday, March 7, we will meet at Konstfrämjandet's federal office in Stockholm to jointly take part in a pre-recorded presentation by Ukrainian artist Katya Buchatska, who last autumn presented the work Night Stay during the exhibition I DIN TID along the veteran railway on Gotland. During February and March 2025, fragments of Night Stay is presented in the window of our federal chancellery in Stockholm, where passers-by can study photo documentation from a 24-hour long ‘classic meeting of strangers’ in a staged Ukrainian long-distance train carriage, and memorabilia from both the Ukrainian and Gotlandic railways.
In the presentation, Buchatska talks about her artistic practice and shares reflections on the interweaving of themes such as nature, landscape and contemporary Ukrainian identity in the middle of the war.
The presentation is about 30 minutes long and is given in English.
Katya Buchatska is a contemporary Ukrainian artist who works in a variety of materials and techniques. With a particular interest in human experience of and impact on nature, her work often takes the form of videos and installations that play with the viewer's perception of time and present imaginary futures. Among other things, Buchatska represented her country at the 2024 Venice Biennale.
The presentation we will was first shown as part of the day long seminar New Nature that took place on June 26, 2024 during Almedalsveckan in Visby. The seminar was part of a collective learning in the lead up to the exhibition I DIN TID by Konstfrämjandet Gotland, Gotland Art Museum and the association Gotlandståget and was organized in collaboration between the district, the Baltic Center for Writers and Translators and Uppsala University.
