Konstfrämjandet Gotland undersöker konstens villkor och kraft i relation till samtidens stora frågor. Vi arbetar med teman som ekologi, energi och ekonomi.
En amerikansk general beskrev Gotland som ett “osänkbart hangarfartyg”. Här finns Pippi Långstrumps hus Villa Villekulla. Cementindustrin vill fortsätta sin verksamhet på ön i minst hundra år och turistindustrin vill göra den till norra Europas mest attraktiva besöksmål. På Gotland produceras hälften av alla Sveriges morötter och här växer 39 arter av orkidéer. Vi har lägst medelinkomst i Sverige och 92 medeltida kyrkor. Det finns många bilder av vad Gotland är och borde vara – hur kan konsten närma sig dem? Hur kan vi med parollen “konst för alla” delta i samhällets ständiga omvandling?
I en orolig värld under snabb och fundamental förändring kan och måste konsten göra mer än att bara produceras och konsumeras. Vi arbetar med flera olika typer av projekt som avspeglar gruppens multidisciplinära bakgrund. Konstfrämjandet Gotland samarbetar med lokala föreningar och institutioner, både inom kulturfältet och andra områden, samt i folkrörelsernas anda knyta an till lokala och globala nätverk. På så vis strävar vi efter en bred räckvidd inom vårt distrikt. Vi tror att en rik, öppen och levande kultur skapas genom ett hälsosamt ekosystem av relationer som utvecklas organiskt över tid. Genom att lära av och stötta varandra skapas möten mellan konst och samhälle byggt på deltagande och ömsesidigt lärande.

Konstfrämjandet Gotland investigates the conditions and power of art in relation to the big issues of the day. We work with themes such as ecology, energy and economy.
An American general described Gotland as an "unsinkable supertanker" and there is Pippi Longstocking's house Villa Villekulla. The cement industry wants to continue its operations on the island for at least a hundred years and the tourism industry wants to make it Northern Europe's most attractive visitor destination. On Gotland, half of all Sweden's carrots are produced and 39 species of orchids grow here. We have the lowest average income in Sweden and 92 medieval churches. There are many images of what Gotland is and should be - how can contemporary art approach them? How can we participate in society's constant transformation with the slogan "art for all"?
In a troubled world undergoing rapid and fundamental change, art can and must do more than just be produced and consumed. We undertake different types of projects that reflect our steering group's multidisciplinary background and strive for a broad reach within our district. Konstfrämjandet Gotland collaborates with local associations and institutions, both in the cultural field and other areas, and in the spirit of the people's movements, connected with local and global networks. We believe that a rich, open and vibrant culture is created through a healthy ecosystem of relationships that develops organically over time. By learning from and supporting each other, encounters between art and society are created based on reciprocity and participation.
